Goethe's Lodge, at the Castle of Mandela

A legend says that Goethe and Hackert used to stay in this apartment when the first was writing the biography of the painter, who was running his drawing school at Licenza. We can't really tell whether this is true, and how much, yet these rooms have always been named this way by the Castle's Staff. Hackert was for sure here, his paintings of Mandela, of the Aniene Valley, his views of the Castle, were made in Mandela; it's not unlikely that his famous admirer followed him here.

This is one of the most ancient parts of the dwelling, and you will appreciate living among its terracotta floors, its white vaulted ceilings, and fireplaces. 17th century house built in stone, cool in summer, and next to the Romantic Wood.
